How much does a wedding cake cost?
Every wedding cake is different, and many factors determine the final price. Our wedding cakes start at $6.50 per slice for a buttercream finish, $7.50 per slice for fondant. The final price will depend on design, certain ingredient requests (we will always let you know if this applies) and if there is any delivery fee. Of course, the sky is the limit, and there is no limit to how expensive a truly one of a kind, extravagant, pull out all the stops cake can be!
“Regular” size cupcakes start at $6.
That includes an ivory “lace” cupcake wrapper on each (other colors available for a small charge), delivery, and set up (within 20 miles, distances over 20 miles will have a delivery fee). Additional decorations such as sprinkles, glitter, icing flowers, molded sugarpaste items (such as a seashells or autumn leaf) or fresh edible flowers (in season) are available for additional cost. .Stands are available with a $50 rental fee and a $100 deposit, refundable when the stand is returned within 1 week of the event.
There is a $300.00 minimum for any delivered wedding.
Wedding Cake FAQ
What does that price include ?
That price will include a private consultation with Amy, where you can taste as many flavors of cake that interest you, look through our portfolios, and together we can design your cake.
Your cake will be freshly baked from scratch, then built into four layer cakes (i.e. 4 layers of cake, 3 layers of filling in each tier for a more elegant presentation when cut and plated), and decorated personally by Amy.
You may choose any flavor, and as many different flavors as you like, there is no added charge. It will be delivered* and set up personally by Amy or Carl.
In order to provide this level of personalized service, we strictly limit the number of wedding cakes we will accept bookings for each day.
*free delivery within 20 miles.
What does that price NOT include?
Extensive decoration, intricate design, and elaborate decoration may cost slightly more.
Additions of Rolled Fondant, handmade sugar flowers and other sugar decorations (shells, lace, etc) or organic edible fruits and flowers will be additional.
Delivery distances beyond 25 miles are $2 mile, based on one way distance. Deliveries over 1 hour are also subject to an additional $15.00 per hour charge.
How soon should I make a consultation appointment?
As mentioned before, we strictly limit the number of wedding cakes we will produce per day. Sometimes very popular weekends can book up far in advance. Whenever you feel you are ready to meet, please call and make your consultation.
Unfortunately, we cannot “save” dates without a non-refundable retainer. You may choose choose to put down a “good faith” deposit before you come in for the consultation to book the date, so there is no chance of it being booked and no longer available. If you would some information on that option, email us.
Is there a charge for the consultation?
There is a $30 fee for the design and tasting consultation.
What should I be doing before my appointment?
Look at pictures of cakes whenever you get a chance. Think about what you like and what you don’t like. Would you like a tiered cake, a cake with pillars, a cake with different shapes like square, hexagon, octagon, heart, or even a combination of different shapes?
Think about the things that are making your wedding unique – perhaps your invitations have a special design, or you are using flowers with special significance. Maybe you are getting married in a special place, or you have something else you would like to incorporate into the design of your cake.
Do you have a color palette you are working with that you would like to use on the cake? Swatches are strongly encouraged, and do not need to be fabric – feel free to bring anything from ribbon to paper to paint chips.
What should I bring to my consultation?
You don’t need to bring anything (except maybe your appetite!) but some things you may want to bring are pictures of cakes you like, as well as cakes you hate!
Bring pictures of anything you want to incorporate into the design: Color swatches, pictures of flowers/centerpieces, rings, invitations or anything else that you want.
Bring the basic information for your reception, such as dates, times, vendor phone numbers and contact person names.
Tastings are made to accommodate 2 people. With advance notice, I can host 2 more, for a total of 4. Please do not bring children to the tasting. If for some reason you are not able to attend a scheduled appointment without children, please let me know so that we can reschedule.
What do we need to do to book our Wedding Cake?
A non-refundable deposit of 1/3 of the estimated cost of the wedding cake is required to book a date. If you would like to place a deposit but are not sure of exact design, we will accept a deposit of 1/3 of the least expensive design option, with details to be finalized later.
My wedding is far from you, is there a limit to far you will deliver?
Surprisingly, no! We love to travel, and have a lot of experience bringing cakes for long distances. If you are willing to pay the delivery fee, we will be there. We have delivered as far as New York City (and the bride told us that even with the delivery fee we were less expensive than local bakeries), to the Northern Kingdom in Vermont, and regularly deliver to Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine
Ok, but my wedding is REALLY far away, now what?
For distances over 300 miles, we will fly to your location to create your cake. Price is dependent on your location, but anticipate the cost to include a price of approximately $6 per person for the cake, round trip plane tickets for 2, and 2 days hotel.
We are on a tight budget, how can we save money?
We want to help everyone enjoy a Hippie Chick wedding cake on their special day, and we can help you design a cake that not only is delicious and beautiful, but is in your budget (after all, we planned a wedding once too!)
There are many suggestions we can make to give you several price options. A common one is to have a smaller display cake and what we call “backup” cakes – cakes that the kitchen cuts and serves that are not as intricately decorated. The cakes look exactly the same when cut, your guests would never know they were not served out of the “display” cake. Back up cakes are $4. per slice.
We LOVE to barter – do you, or someone you can coerce, have a skill that you can offer in trade? A vacation home to let us use? A passion for thankless manual labor? We are always looking for something, give us a call and see what we can work out. (any person doing work on our property must be licensed and/or insured) Barters must be agreed on as an equal exchange by both parties, will require a signed contract addendum, and generally must be completed by the same time a final payment would be required – 2 weeks prior to the event.
Here are some of the things we are currently looking for:
- Jetski trailer
- Tile / installation
- Re-pointing brick on chimney
- resurfacing a gravel drive
- Vacation rental home or timeshare
- Disney Dollars
- Gift cards
- Wood floor refinishing
- Carpentry – rough and/or finish
- Water sport stuff – wakeboard, wake surfboard, inflatable SUP, small towables
- mulch/landscaping
- tree removal
Don’t let this list limit you, although we are not currently interested in photography, thanks!
We have booked a function site that includes the cake as part of our package. Do I have any options?
Are you unhappy with the decorating options available from the bakeries associated with your package? Do you require a cake to accommodate a special dietary need?
Most times it is possible to work out something with your reception site; the first thing to do is talk to them. Many times they will let you choose a different bakery, giving you a “credit” towards a cake from a different bakery. If you need assistance, we will be happy to contact your site to discuss the matter.
What kinds of allergies can you accommodate?
The first thing we tell everyone dealing with allergies, in most cases we use these ingredients in the bakery, and while we take every precaution to avoid cross-contamination, there is always the chance. Please look at our allergy page for more details. We strongly encourage anyone with questions or concerns to call us beforehand, so we can help you decide if we are the bakery for you.
That being said, we are a completely peanut and tree nut-free facility and have created cakes that were: Dairy-free, Egg-free, Gluten-friendly, Corn-free, Sugar-free, Soy-free, and more. If you would like more information or have questions, just let us know.
